1964, Chicago, Illinois, USA — Each year, a memorial appears in Chicago newspapers for the late Sam DeStefano, reputed to be one of the crime syndicate’s bloodiest butchers. DeStefano (center arms waving), in 1964 file photo, shows him as he leaves Criminal Court after being sentenced to jail for illegal voting, was gunned down on April 14, 1973.
